For four years, the courageous crew of the NSEA Protector set off on thrilling and often dangerous missions in space ... and then their series was cancelled. Now, twenty years later, aliens under attack have mistaken the Galaxy Quest television transmissions for "historical documents" and beamed up the crew of has-been actors to save the universe. With no script, no director and no clue, the actors must turn in the performances of their lives.

I liked this Comedy Science Fiction DVD. It is done with real people. The story in the script is purposely weak. The acting was well done; but, none of the characters are deep. It is a shallow comedy not even trying to be realistic. It is a spoof about Star Trek. I found it funny; but, not hilarious. It is not too violent or sexual for kids. It will have some scary moments for young kids.

The special effects are top of the line for the 90s and the alien costumes are well designed but a bit corny so it makes it hard to suspend your disbelief. If you've never seen this some of the Star Trek spoofs will leave you rolling in laughter.
But this is not a campy comedy; much of the drama takes on a serious tone involving death and some scarry toture scenes.
It's a delightful surprise who actually saves the day in the end; shhhh -no Spoilers allowed.

Pity they didn't spoof the next generation, successive diminishing returns franchises, autocratic producer & "dip too many times into the well" corporation.

One of the all-time great movies ever! Can' enthuse enough about this, especially that ultra-cute ending. Hilarious, for SF and non-SF fans alike! [The level of this comedy can only be achieved when every actor is a craftsman or woman of the highest caliber!]

This is one of my favorite Sci-Fi movies. Not so much a spoof as it is an homage to the entire genre and to Stark Trek in particular. They hit all the right marks- the too serious Thespian, the beautiful but under utilized actress, and the star who always manages to find a way to get his shirt off again. Fun for the whole family.

This may be the best sci-fi spoof ever, with outstanding performances from Alan Rickman, Tim Allen, and Sigourney Weaver. The cast of a defunct, but cult favorite, sci-fi TV series (sound familiar?) has been reduced to comic convention appearances and store openings, until the arrival of real space aliens challenges them to live up to their characters' heroic traits.
