Kind of silly and unnecessary. Definitely some plot mistakes.

Wonderful 50's musical with lovely singing and superb dancing. I smiled or laughed through the whole 102 minutes!
A bunch of coarse and dirty brothers who live on a homestead in the 1850 Oregon boonies end up kidnapping a bunch of women after efforts to court them correctly fail. Totally politically incorrect for our era, but you can overlook that because lessons are learnt :)

Just watched this classic for the first time and I highly recommend it if you are looking for a lighthearted fun musical that you can watch with your grandparents and grandkids

A sweet, cute, romantic, feel-good movie that is very entertaining. The dancing is probably the best that I have ever seen in a movie musical. Look for a very young Julie Newmar, then known as Julie Newmeyer, a future Catwoman on the "Batman" TV series.

VERY GOOD (and fun) 1954 musical set in 1850 Oregon Territory. Large cast. with pretty ladies wearing some amazing corseted tiny waist dresses.

Such a fun, colorful, sweet movie! I love this one, and it doesn't get as much credit as other classic movies, like, say, Singing in the Rain. The storyline is funny and entertaining, and the songs are great. And the dancing too! Loved it all!

One of the more famous Cinemascope musicals featuring hunky Howard Keel and mousy Jane Powell in the leads, backed by a cast of mainly nobodies including a pro baseball player and male ballet dancer. The painted backdrops and plywood frontier sets are cheesy, but the musical numbers are athletic enough even if the dubbed songs themselves are completely forgettable. It’s the sheer campiness of it all that appealed to me though; the strutting cowboys, the awkward lyrics (“A man can’t sleep when he sleeps with sheep…”), and an all-girl lingerie cat fight featuring sexy bloomers and corsets. “It’s indecent if you ask me…” laments a shopkeeper’s portly wife, “…one lone woman with seven scroungy backwoodsmen.” I guess one woman’s nightmare is another man’s dream come true. Musical cinema just doesn’t get any gayer than this.
