Jerry has to do one last errand for the mob before they let him find employment elsewhere--he has to go to Mexico and recover a rare and very valuable pistol "The Mexican", which is said to be cursed. While his girlfriend, Samantha, objects to Jerry taking the assignment, he isn't in much of a position to argue. Once in Mexico, Jerry finds the pistol easily enough, but making his way back to the States proves to be an unexpected challenge. Meanwhile, his mob connection hires Leroy, a hitman, to kidnap Samantha and hold her hostage until Jerry comes back.

When I picked this up at the library, I was wondering why on earth I had ordered it. Well, as I didn't want it's travelling to go for naught, I picked a night with nothing really better to do and watched it. I realized a ways into it, that I had ordered it, because James Gandolfini was in it, and I have been watching the Sopranos series, and I wanted to see him in something else. As it began, I kind of groaned and I did not think that I would be seeing it through to the end. But.....then the scenes with Julia Roberts and James G. got to rolling, and I became engrossed in watching his acting, and then as more time went by, I also became enamoured with the movie itself. Lots of twists and turns, flying bullets and executions (Soprano style,) and also a few love stories and fairy tales thrown in. Oh, I mustn't forget the furry comedy as well. So......I ended up with a smile on my face at the end! (p.s. I found the chemistry between Gandolfini and Roberts more interesting than that between Roberts and Pitt. Weird, but true!)

This movie was entertaining and interesting but not one of my favorite for this year. “Not too bad---good performance”. "I fast forwarded a lot but not all the way.”

Poor reviews but it is a thoughtful crime comedy as good as any Cohen Brothers movies in mho.

The dialogue between Roberts and Pitt gets you going , from start to finish : lovers, quarrels, its about love overcoming obstacles. True love always wins.

I don't know why people don't like this film, it's a fun ride. Pitt and Roberts have no scenes together until the end, and that's when the film fall apart. Still, leading up to that point this is a great film. Lots of laughs. You'll never say "El Chimino" the same again.
