THE SCOUT’S OUTDOOR COOKBOOK
Christine & Tim Conners
The Scout's Outdoor Cookbook brings together more than 300 outdoor recipes submitted by Scouting folks all over the country and edited and compiled by Tim and Christine Conners, the authors of Lipsmackin' Backpackin' and Lipsmackin' Vegetarian Backpackin'. This user-friendly cookbook is aimed at Boy and Girl Scouts and their leaders, but is appropriate for hikers, campers, canoers and kayakers, or anyone else who wants to eat well in the wilderness. Each recipe includes number of servings, a difficulty rating, a list of required equipment, and a handy icon to let the reader see the cooking method (dutch oven, skillet, etc.) at a glance. It's important to note that all of the recipes have been tested and used by Boy and Girl Scouts on campouts and are proven, time-tested favorites. Recipes are laid out with step-by-step, clear, and specific instructions, eliminating the need for guesswork. There are also "Using This Book" and "Recommendations and Tips" sections. Instructions on methods of cooking--plank grilling, foil cooking, cooking with cans--are provided where appropriate. There are many classic Dutch oven recipes provided, but also some fun Dutch oven surprises. Other methods include pot cooking, cooking-on-sticks, foil wraps, pie irons, frying pan, lots of no-cooks, and a whole bunch of fun and different methods that kids will love. Recipes include "Omelet-in-a-Bag," "Sunrise Surprise Coffee Cake," "Travelin' Tacos," "Croque Monsieur a la Scout," and other delicious creations that are a long, long way from GORP. Christine Conners is a children’s psychotherapist and a graduate of Outward Bound. Tim Conners is a aircraft propulsion engineer. They live with their four children in Savannah, Georgia.
The Scout's Outdoor Cookbook emphasizes the best food preparation and techniques currently used in scouting. Thoroughly covered are recipes employing time-tested cooking methods using Dutch ovens, pots and pans, grills, and open fire.
Enjoy over 300 favorite recipes of leaders from the Boy Scouts of America and the Girl Scouts of the USA
Sometimes wacky, always practical, this book will help the new camp cook to develop a thorough foundation of basic skills, while providing the experienced chef with plenty of new recipes and techniques to add additional dimension and enjoyment to their outdoor cooking.
