There is no question the script was well-written, the acting and directing were both good. And Gabriel Byrne was one of my favorite actors. However, you are looking at a therapist talking, most of the time across a coffee table, with his patient or patients in his own home. And yes, the table got reversed once a week when the therapist himself sought help. So you have to have a lot of time and patience to get yourself engaged with the stories. But if you like drama, one with many sub-plots, all involving human relationship and emotion, this one is worth a watch for sure. I personally had to skip a few of the sessions due to my time budget, but enjoyed those I did watch.

Maybe I wasn't in the right mood for this one -- too bad because I love Gabriel Byrne -- but this was boring :(
I got through 2 episodes.

I might like this series if I could actually see it. Ive tried to view 4 dvds (like 20 episodes) and might have seen 3-5 clearly. Ive reported this to Evanston library but they dont care, rentals are free. It just cost my patience and sanity when I gather snacks and began an evening of movies only to waste hours trying to clean or trick scratched dvds into work. THANKS WILMETTE LIBRARY FOR SHITTY DVDS AND RUINING MY WEEKEND!!!

This is a fantastic show that bears repeated viewings. I especially loved the first two seasons, based on the Israeli show. The third season was somewhat less compelling.

I watched this first season last, because of availability at the library. I really loved the second season which I watched first, the third season was slightly less captivating, and by the time I got to this one I'd lost much of my admiration for Paul. His infatuation with Laura-the-horrible was impossible to fathom and exasperating. The HBO series was cancelled after three years, and as much as I liked it over all, three years feels about right to me.

Watched 4 sessions in Disc one and give up. Not my cup of tea ... agree with joeguy;s comments.

One of my favorite series. I love Paul's sessions with Gina and the dynamic between Paul and Kate (played by an amazing Michelle Forbes). She's a wonderful actress. Also love the sessions with Amy and Jake (Josh Charles and Embeth Davitz). There relationship is so messed up and its nice to see how Paul delivers his insight throughout the season.

At the beginning of season one it is not always easy to feel any sympathy for either the patients or Paul. However, one must watch all of the weekly therapy sessions of each patient as well as Paul's sessions with his mentor and therapist to see their progression and improvements. Very intense emotionally.

I had such high hopes for this series ... wow was I in for a shock!!!

In one word - YAWN!!

Boring!!!! I watched one full episode waiting for something to happen - nothing. So watched another thinking that first one was just a fluke - no it wasn't - back on the couch, back listening to some puffed up guy thoroughily enjoying talking about himself - didn't both with the other 4o!!
