Two astronauts awaken in a hyper-sleep chamber aboard a seemingly abandoned spacecraft. With it being pitch black, they are disoriented. The only sound is a low rumble and creak from the belly of the ship. They can't remember who they are or what their mission is. With Lt. Payton staying behind to guide him via radio transmitter, Cpl. Bower ventures deep into the ship and begins to uncover a terrifying reality. Slowly the spacecraft's shocking, deadly secrets are revealed. The astronauts soon find their own survival is more important than they could ever have imagined.

This is a low-budget film. The two main ideas: 1) a ship transporting a large seeding population of humans and other earth-based organisms to a very earth-like and very distant planet to avoid extinction on a dying Earth, requiring long-term transportation over a vast distance, including the familiar 'freeze-in-time' trope; and 2) some people waking up earlier than intended and dealing with that problem over time while other humans 'slept' on longer and then woke up later in time to encounter those who had been awake for more time -- are actually very, very impressive ideas. If the story concept had been brought to life by filmmakers who know how to put together a quality sci-fi horror (example movie: Event Horizon), then this would likely have been a modern classic. The movie is hurt by low-end writing, editing, concept development, set design, and acting. If a few of these pieces had been improved even a moderate amount during the filmmaking processes, my rating would have easily been at least 2.5 or 3 stars given the excellent, excellent story concept. As it is, it's difficult to encourage others to take the viewing experience seriously, other than the last 40 minutes or so, which really bring together the previous hour of disjointed plot points to reveal the awesome scope of the situation to which the viewer has been exposed. I encourage space-flight sci-fi horror fans to check out this concept. I also encourage those viewers to not expect a great finished product.

It is so refreshing to see a new source of science fiction. Very different from the Star Trek and Star Wars ( science fiction light) genre, it has some new themes. Well not perfect it does provide something different with a small budget and lots of imagination. It provides something to think about on humanities problem of how to get around the speed of light limitations. The universe is huge and people can't travel without some means around it, the movie suggests sleeping while traveling. The first time I saw this movie I was very impressed. Well after more than 10 viewings, I am still impressed. Well done movie producers.

Loved it. Creatures were rather predictable, however, the story kept me on edge & didn't see the twists it took. Also love the fact it room for a sci-fi sequel...maybe a continuation but leaves you with no questions.

I did enjoy this one very much. Ben Foster and Antje Trauer and made an interesting and likeable neo Adam and Eve, the pacing was swift, and the plot threw me a few curveballs here and there.

With the results of its $33 million budget staring me square in the face - Pandorum was definitely one of those predictable Sci-Fi/Horror stories that had its fair share of both good and bad points to boast about.

Unfortunately, (in the end) it was this film's overbearing mediocrity that out-weighed its potential brilliance, time and again.

When it came to Pandorum's brutal violence, much-too-much emphasis was placed on its rapid-fire editing. And, sure enough, this novelty became somewhat tiresome after a short while.

Pandorum also lost significant points due to the unimaginative look of its ravenous cannibals. In the long run, these creatures were neither frightening nor were they at all original in their overall appearance.

All-in-all - Pandorum's story of paranoia, claustrophobia, and playing a very deadly game of hide-n-seek was just too convoluted for its own good.

And, finally - With Pandorum's story ending in the year 2174 (Earth's calendar) and Year One on Tanis, I couldn't help but wonder just how long it would take for man to completely defile this virgin frontier and literally ruin it just like he's inevitably ruined this Earth..... Hey! I'm not being a pessimist here. I'm being a realist.

I completely agree and second Ocho's comment...

I wasn’t expecting too much from this movie and was blown away with what I watched. This is an excellent sci\horror movie that is a real thrill ride. Sure there are some holes in things but overall I really enjoyed, enjoyed it so much that I even watched the featurettes which I never do.

I loved this B movie. A lost spaceship, lost memories, alien life-forms that aren't what they appear to be.Add some lovely, quirky characters. Top it all off with a surprise (and rather happy) ending.

Wikipedia gives a better summary than mine here is the link: ( )
Basically one of the captains wakes up from hyper sleep and finds out that he has been in hyper sleep for close to 1000 years and that they actually crash landed on another earth like planet. Along the way he figures out that earth doesn't exist anymore and they are the last humans in existence. Also he finds some humans who have gone crazy and are cannibals now and have been breeding for a few centuries, and they try to kill and eat him. Lastly the ship crash landed on the planet and they are now deep under ocean. Keep in mind my summary is not in chronological order.

Violence: Pandorum has a 'Restricted' rating so the gore and violence is pretty graphic and gruesome.

Coarse Language: Yep. There's profanity, alright.
