There was a time when it seemed everyone was reading this book. Built on the premise that it isn't calories that count, that eggs won't kill you and that protein and fats are OK, Atkins' diet came as welcomed music to those who had been literally starving themselves with the food fads that had been around for well neigh unto fifty years. This book, and its predecessor turned the nutrition world and more importantly the diet world upside down. The Mayo Clinic web site dubs the diet a fad: aren't they all? In addition to substantial weight loss, the book promises a range of other health benefits but I suggest you read the book to discover what they might be.
Interesting to read.
I haven't picked this up but I hope it is a good read. People seem to have a poor perception of what carbs are and why they are very much needed in your overall health. Fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, and dairy have carbs. Carbs are mainly fiber and sugar. A balance diet is what is most needed unless there is an underlying health condition that require less fiber and sugar.
A good book, but.....
The older Atkins books are still the better ones as the older used more real food and carb restrictions while newer ones bent more towards allowing more "good" carbs (and even commercialized as Atkins products were incorporated into recipes, etcetera).
