Turner (sociology, U. of California-Riverside) has written many long books about sociological theory, he says, but here just sets out the fundamentals of major theories, pointing out that there is no consensus among sociologists as to what theory is or what it is good for. The flavors of theorizing he covers are functional, conflict, ecological, exchange, symbolic interactionist, dramaturgical, structural, cultural, critical, stage-model evolutionary, and biologically inspired.
