Sequel to The Eye of Minds, The Rule of Thoughts continues to follow Michael’s attempts to save the world. Michael, former Tangent, tries to make sense of his new life while trying to escape Kaine’s dangerous motives. Michael is yet again on the run with his friends, but this time, in the real world. The greatest challenge for them is to determine whom they should trust. Full of twists and turns, the plot is simply captivating. The purpose of the Mortality Doctrine is clearer in this book than its prequel, yet there remain many unanswered questions. Overall, this second installment provides much information about the advanced world and its technology. Though the real and virtual realms are confusingly tangled with each other, the threat to humanity is a very real and serious issue throughout the story. For those who have read its prequel, The Rule of Thoughts is a must-read! Rating: 5/5

I should really like this book. It's an interesting premise with interesting ideas. But it fell really flat for me. I'm not sure if it's Dashner's writing style or just the lack of relatable characters (or much character development). I had similar issues with the first three books in the Maze Runner series - but those books at least had more action to compensate.
I don't think it's just Dashner because I really enjoyed the prequels (i.e. books 4 and 5) in the Maze Runner series - but they were definitely more character focused than this series has been thus far.

I enjoyed this one slightly better than the Eye of Minds. Glad that more characters were introduced.

It was great but I expected a little more creepyness. It was so good. I agree with you booknerd.

The Rule of Thoughts was a beautiful sequel to The Eye of Minds (which by the way left you totally hanging) Dashner immediately draws you in at the very first page into a ride of victories and losses. Real world verses untouchable annihilation. WARNING the ending is sooooo twisted.

Good book! It continues just where it left off in The Eye of Minds, but it does end with another cliff-hanger. It reads similar to the first book in this series, so if you liked that, you'll most likely like this too. :)
