Reproducing a selection of 175 drawings from the Master Architect’s early sketchbooks, an illuminating volume excavates the “visual thinking” of the 20th century’s pioneer architect while revisiting architectural history and providing a physical and intellectual road map for students, travelers and lovers of art and architecture.
This text traces the early travels (1907-1911) of influential architect Charles-Edouard Jeanneret, otherwise known as Le Corbusier. Through Le Corbusier's many sketches of Europe and the Mediterranean, the reader sees the beginnings of a great architect and designer. The author, also an architect, adds context and history to the narrative. Chapter titles are La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, Italy, Europe, Germany, and Journey to the East. The text will be of interest to the architecture or design student. Annotation ©2016 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
