The author handles this adaptation of the film to novel form very well, sticking right with the flow of the movie, using characterization in a way that rings true with the performances of the actor and expanding things here and there. The occasional break between chapters that feature correspondence or journal entries from some of the characters are a good touch.

This was an excellent novelization of an excellent movie, and good for getting inside the characters' heads. If you're a bit of a star wars geek, like me, it's good for catching things you missed in the movie.

The Rogue One novelization follows the movie exactly. I liked how this book expanded on things that were unclear in the movie, and I liked how each of the characters were developed better. Jyn's character was a great example. She starts off being careless and angry about everything and she's also a little unstable. At the end, she's at peace mentally and she becomes a better person than she was in the beginning of the story. The novelization also made some references and connections to the prequels, and that was satisfying to me because I was hoping that there would be something that would connect Rogue One, the prequels, and the originals. One of the things that I didn't like about this novelization was that there was, (not a whole ton, but more than I would like), swearing. The movie was clean, so I am not sure why Alexander Freed included them. The ending is of course sad, but like what one of the movie critics said in his review, which goes something like this, "Death is a natural part of war. Rogue One never lets us forget that."
