You get a better sense of who Trevor Noah is and better appreciate him as well. People go through bad times, but Trevor's life may put yours in perspective. A great listen plus he will pronounce names you will never be able to.

A MUST READ—or better yet listen to Trevor Noah read the story of his childhood in South Africa. He was an crime. His mother was black, his father was white and that was illegal. Bill Gates is right. This is one of the best books to read this summer.

What a powerful book! It is even more moving when you listen to the audiobook and hear Trevor Noah tell his own story. He gives us unique insight into culture, poverty, race, and domestic violence in South Africa. He can be funny, but more often this is a love story between a son and his mother. With this memoir, we begin to understand his perspective on life, and the basis for his sense of humor.

I highly recommend the audio version of this book. Trevor Noah is a great entertainer and he does a very personal and engaging imitation of a lot of the characters in his personal history.

This book was fascinating and excellent. I listened to the audiobook and Trevor Noah, the host of The Daily Show, narrates and he does a fabulous job. Noah has a unique ability to look at issues and situations with wide prospective and deep intellect. You'll find yourself laughing along to his stories and then pulled into a deeper understanding and eye opening statements. Noah goes into depth about his identity crises of being mixed in South Africa as well as his mom's mission of breaking their family's cycle of poverty. I learned a lot about South African culture and apartheid. Excellent book.

Easily one of the best books of the year, and one of the best memoirs I've ever read. Listen on audio, if you get a chance!

Wow, Trevor Noah certainly has some tales to tell! As the son of a white father and a black mother, growing up in South Africa, Noah didn't "neatly" fit into any category . He so clearly articulates the insights he developed from this unique perspective. His story also demonstrates the power of a mother's love for a child and her Christian faith. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the audiobook which is beautifully read by the author.

Outstanding! This book is hilarious, heartbreaking and extremely thought provoking. I'm familiar with his show and stand-up comedy, but it was great to get an inside look on his life growing up in South Africa and during the Apartheid.

Please note that it is (or should be) rated R for language.

Swerving from bitingly funny to chillingly real, listening to Trevor Noah narrate the full story of his life in South Africa allowed me to hear the full range of voices and cultures that mixed together to make him who he is today. Ultimately a story about mother and son, Noah uses his own life to illustrate the ways in which people constantly create and challenge cultural norms and expectations.

I highly recommend listening to the audio book version of this, since Trevor Noah reads it himself. His story is at turns hilarious, horrifying, and heartwarming. Noah is an excellent storyteller, and he keeps the reader engaged throughout the entire book.

This audiobook is... a must. It is read by the author/entertainer, Trevor Noah, himself and it is brilliantly executed. You laugh because his delivery of events is so amusing, but cry because the reality of the content is overwhelmingly brutal. There's no question... a must.
