Very interesting piece of history about which I knew nothing. Everything about it so very well done. We need more movies of this calibre.

Interesting film based on a true a story about an heir apparent, prince of Bechuanland (now Botswana) who marries a British white woman in the colonialism era. The actors describe the film as a love story, and a political saga. The film starts in the late 1940s and the Bechuanland prince is living in England. His country is a British protectorate and the English have political concerns because South Africa has just initiated apartheid, have been confiscating African mineral resources and they want to continue to rule and exploit “their” African possessions. The African prince marries his British sweetheart and takes her home to Africa where his Uncle has been ruling as regent. The Uncle and the local population are not keen on a white queen, but the couple persists and overcome conflict from the Bechuanlanders and the oppressive British white rule and command. The story is very timely and even more impressive considering that it happened in the 1940s. Bechuanland finally gains independence in 1966 and the couple portrayed in the film have children – one of their sons eventually becomes a democratically elected president of Botswana. The lead actors are excellent and the story moving – worth the wait for this DVD.
