June 1944. Allied Forces stand on the brink: a massive army is secretly assembled on the south coast of Britain, poised to re-take Nazi-occupied Europe. One man stands in their way: Winston Churchill. An impulsive, sometimes bullying personality; fearful, obsessive and hurting. Fearful of repeating, on his disastrous command, the mass slaughter of 1915, when hundreds of thousands of young men were cut down on the beaches of Gallipoli. Obsessed with fulfilling historical greatness: his destiny.

If you believe this story a bunch of drunks were running the war and they kept having hissy fits to do so. I just don't find it very inspiring or realistic.

There is a difference between historical inaccuracies and outright lies. This movie demonstrates the difference. Churchill in the underground in the movie "Darkest Hours" is an example of the former. This movie is the latter. And it is really obvious. I had read reviews prior to trying to watch this, but nothing prepared me for just how bad this movie is. I just couldn't watch it. You really have to ask what could motivate people to make a movie like this.

Watched the film. Then researched the facts. Wish it had been the other way around. If you have multiple DVD's from the library and are running out of viewing time....take this one back and do not bother with this film.

Awful flick. Basically total fantasy. I believe it was one of the producers that stated they wanted to provide a different view of PM Churchill. Too bad it was so badly acted and a total lie!

I guess I liked this film more than a lot of the critics. I thought Brian Cox proved he was a great actor as he went from a reasonable man to a horrible man to a near cripple as the emotions called for. I didn't realize that it was Miranda Richardson playing Churchill's wife. She was really in some of the top films during the early part of her career with "Dance with a Stranger," "Damage," and "The Crying Game," but I haven't really seen much of her after that.

I thought the film was well-enough acted, but I couldn't quite believe the story line. Sorry.

Excellent a real Prime Minister

1. in some communities, Great Men can be used as a test for loyalty, which in its turn is a test for being ' part of the community.' so someone will assign themselves , or be assigned to, ask you a question, such as, "What do you think of Churchill?" Be sure to say you revere the man, or further action will be forthcoming, against you. sort of an impeachment process, at this lower strata of society. 2. the Academy Awards are not universally recognized as the last word for what is annually decided is excellent, in the American movie world. There are neighborhoods in San Francisco, for instance, where the televised ceremony is used for throwing articles of clothing and/or food, at the screen. Catcalls, jeering, etc. Hypocrisy is perceived in the ordeal. Are these social deviants? or just more perceptive than the average movie goer. It's Run O' the MIll.

Winston Churchill has had four movies portraying his life. There was "Young Winston", "The Crown", "The Darkest Hour" and "Churchill". Brian Cox is my favorite actor of Churchill. He is the only one of the actors to be the same age as Winston Churchill at the time in history he is portraying him. All the films have consistently shown how the man grew and had to adapt to each new situation. We may never understand the importance of Winston Churchill because to those who live in Britain, he literally saw them through World War I and World War II. That may explain why 3 of the 4 movies are from British productions. There is no question about it, Winston Churchill is one of the most respected men in the history of Britain!
