High hopes for this Alec Baldwin/ Demi Moore vehicle dashed by dull writing and bad acting. On top of that, the premise just doesn't work. Here it is in a nutshell: a glitzy socialite (Moore) married to a sleazy Wall Street wheeler-dealer (McDermott), suddenly falls in love with a cantankerous old blind novelist (Baldwin) when she starts reading to him due to court-directed community-service hours to fulfill. O.K., someone really loves Demi Moore, though she is not photographed particularly charitably, or it could be that she's just gotten real old and had a bit too much work done. Personally, I'd rather watch Blame It on Rio!

Why was she sentenced to do community service when there hadn't even been a trial yet (let alone a conviction) for any crime her husband was alleged of doing??

In spite of that big weird flaw, I enjoyed seeing Demi Moore in a film again. Her classic looks/aquiline nose worked well in the role of pampered wife of a powerful, wealthy man, she carried herself beautifully in spite of the ridiculously ugly wardrobe she was almost constantly swathed in (although I did like a couple of the coats) and her slightly husky voice would have had me head-over-heels too had I been the blind recipient of her reading.

On the other hand, stubby fingered, puffy faced, crusty eyed, loud mouthed, rude (and significantly poorer) Alec Baldwin as the focus of her burgeoning love was too much of a reach for me. But, it was pleasant to see two older lovers of roughly the same age in a Hollywood film - roles for an older man's lover are almost always given to someone half his age - so there is that.

The most predictable and trite movie I've seen in a long time.
