It was really good! :) Definitely Merissa Meyer worthy!
I LOVED this book! It was a little confusing at first... but the cast of characters in the front really helped, and I warmed up really quickly and couldn't put it down. I LOVE all of Marissa Meyer's books and can't wait for the next ones!

I adore Marissa Meyer. I adore superheroes. But I struggled a little to enjoy this as much as I felt I should have. I think both main characters were well-developed. What was hard for me to enjoy was that it fit *too* well into the superhero genre. I wanted something unexpected and different, but it was moderately predictable. A few things caught me off-guard, but there were several things that I figured out before the characters and the "dramatic irony" served more as an annoyance than a plot-propeller. I certainly intend to read the sequel, but I hope for some more surprises.
I loved this book so much! It was very inspiring, and while I’d dint think I would like the characters, I fell in love with all of them. There were a lot of positive messages in this book about bravery and heroism, and I’m totally excited for the next one to come out! It seems very long but due to all of the xfitment and amazing plot twists, it was a quick read! 🤗
Looks like a long book, but it is a fast read. Different - really enjoyable. Looking forward to the concluding book coming out in 2018.
There is no need for this book to be this long. This story could have been told in 250, 300 pages, easily. There is so much fluff, you could stuff several Captain Chromium dolls with it, and still have enough left over to make a pillow that Nova won't use. Seriously, she might not sleep, but this book might make you want to. I'm not a big super hero fan, but even I can smell the tropes. The universe is somehow bland and preachy at the same time. We're told what it means to be a hero in the last few chapters, and how you don't need powers to be super, but it comes across as a lecture, not inspirational. The powers are interesting, if we could explore what they really could do. The ideas are there, but they're buried under uninteresting nonsense that could have been solved with a decent editor. But considering the popularity of the author, I imagine the editors sat on the ground and let her step on their hands rather than touch the book with anything critical.
A solid 4.5 stars for this new superheroes vs supervillains story from Marissa Meyer. This book features an action-packed plot that starts out with an enigmatic proclamation from Nova aka Nightmare, the strong female lead character: "One cannot be brave, who has no fear," as she leaves her first confrontation with the enigmatic Sentinel (Renegade Adrian aka Sketch in disguise).
Soon enough we see Nova who begins the story on the side of the Anarchists, seeking to infiltrate the ranks of the ruling superheroes or Renegades so that she can help her team overthrow them. After an impressive tryout using the code name Insomnia, Nova is assigned to Adrian's team and the reader watches as the two seek outwardly work together while they have very different goals and do not realize that their adversary is right beside them.
Double identities and superhero skills aside, this book asks the question: Would the world be better off without superpowers? Would ordinary people step up and help each other if they didn't have superheroes to do the heavy lifting? Fascinating! Looking forward to Episode #2.
Nova and Adrian were fun to get to know. The challenges they faced: to be seen as valued members of their teams and to make a bigger difference in the world were encouraging. Their immediate connection made perfect sense. I can't wait to see how/if they will come to understand each other in the next book.
