After a family tragedy, a young American couple joins some friends at a midsummer festival in a remote Swedish village. What begins as a carefree summer holiday takes a sinister turn when the insular villagers invite their guests to partake in festivities that grow increasingly unnerving and viscerally disturbing.

Such a funny and immersive experience about a relationship that's run its course. Also, it made me wish I had a bunch of Swedish women to support me as we wail together in a circle.

The imagery in this film is absolutely breathtaking. I loved the visual effects and the vivid colours! It will definitely mess with your mind. Ari Aster is a horror genius.

This is an excellent horror movie by a new and innovative director. It is at times hard to watch and is extremely unsettling but it is a quality movie. It you rated it poorly you probably just didn’t get it.

Horrible, don't watch unless you really want to be grossed out.

Awful movie. I don’t like it. I think the director have some mental brain problem. That director should be not born at all. Cult is everywhere in real life. Awful.

I really liked this. A satisfying horror story about a girl that goes on a trip with a flaky boyfriend way too soon after a tragic loss. I really cared about this girl’s well being (hated her boyfriend) and generally felt fear on her behalf when the movie started to bear its fangs.
This is absolutely not a b-movie. It’s a fanatically produced, visually pleasing nightmare come true. Watch it!

Better than expected. I get why some people hated it though.
Could've been way better, but I thought it'd be worse.
Considering how much most movies suck, this was above average.

Brilliant pacing of the story and intensity. Beautiful cinematography and editing with the finest score for a horror film of this century.

An unsettling film-I couldn't finish it.

Midsommar is a masterpiece of modern cinema! I loved the concept of a horror movie set in such a bright, idyllic place and I feel like Aster captured that image perfectly. The gore was incredibly graphic in this film, yet it was also something you just could not look away from. Viewing the intense scenes put me in the mind of the other characters, just as horrified and scared as they were. I also really loved the execution of the relationships, and how they related to the themes of family, trauma, and love. This whole movie felt like a psychedelic experience, especially with the vibrant colours, hazy plot, and violent ending. Overall, I loved this movie and would recommend it to anyone who is over 16 and is okay with viewing extremely graphic scenes. 5/5

"Well we think of life like the seasons. So you're a child until you're 18 and that's spring. And then at some point we all do our Pilgrimage, which is between 18 and 36, and that's summer. And then from, eh - 36 to 54, we're working age, which is *fall*. And then finally from 54 to 72 you become a mentor."

The prep - Kool-Aid:

What does it do?
-Oh, um... It, uh... It breaks down your defenses and opens you for the influence.
Here. Here, smell this.
-What is it?
It calms you down.
Are you not disturbed by what we just saw?
-Yeah, of course I am. That was really, really shocking. I'm trying to keep an open mind though. That's cultural, you know? We stick our elders in nursing homes. I'm sure they find that disturbing.
Welcome to Harga, and happy midsummer! It has been 90 years since our last great feast and it will be 90 years before our next. And what poetry that it's now the hottest and brightest summer on record. We already have so much to give back and so, without any further blathering, let's raise our glasses. Let our Nine-Day feast commence.
As Harga takes, so Harga also gives.
Now, it's traditional for the May Queen to bless our crops and livestock. And after the luck you just inherited from that salt herring,

I'm doing my research on European midsummer traditions, these guys are just tagging along.
-Mr. Pelle's invited us to an authentic hippie midsummer at his yodeling farm.
Yeah, it's sort of a crazy nine-day festival my family's doing. Lots of pageantry... Uh-huh. ...special ceremonies, and dressing up.
Why 36?
-Well, we think of life like the seasons. So you're a child until you're 18 and that's Spring. And then at some point, we all do our Pilgrimage which is between 18 and 36. That's Summer, and then from 36 to 54, we're working age, which is Fall. And then finally from 54 to 72 you become a mentor.
-What happens at 72?
Oh, my God, the women here. What is it that makes them hotter?
-The Vikings grabbed all the best babes from other countries and dragged them over.
Not a lot of privacy.
-Yeah, what do you do when you need to jerk off?
