Not just another antiwar novel this is what you might expect from psychiatrist with a writers skills. In Angola the Portuguese found their Vietnam. Nobody there wanted this war but it had to happen to protect the interests of the investing class. It is hard not to think of Colonel Kurtz, the role played by Marlon Brando in Apocalypse Now when reading this work by Antunes. If an aspiring writer wants to read a master of metaphor and analogy this work easily fills the bill.
