Shatter me is about a girl named Juliette, she has the power to take the energy out of anyone that she touches, except for one person. She has been in a mental hospital for over a year, struggling to survive and starving day after day when she gets a cellmate for “good behaviour” and at first she is afraid and doesn’t talk. Later she becomes friendly with her cellmate, Adam and she learns that he is actually in the military, sent to investigate her so that Warner can use her as a weapon. He thinks Juliette is similar to him and forces her to kill someone to prove what she can do and he desperately tries to get her to fall in love with him. She and Adam fall in love after he takes multiple beatings for her bad behaviour, and after a drill, they escape, jumping out of a window. Nobody wants to touch her, as she will kill them, but Adam can, and Warner brushes her leg, without getting hurt. They run to Adams house while being hunted and Juliette learns Adam has a brother. After living with Adam for a short time, Adam’s friend shows up at the door, beat up, and tells them that he knows a safe place. Adam is beat up and struggles to keep up with them and gets shot. When they find him, he is badly injured but they get to the safe place Adam’s friend described. Overall I give this book a 5/5 stars because it is such an interesting concept and the characters are well developed. The author also makes you feel for the characters and I would overall greatly recommend this book. @skybooks of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board
