The book is not nearly as salacious as the media led one to believe. (What? I just read it again 5 years later, and I strongly disagree with my opening statement). It is definitely adult reading. The author introduces the readers to the bondage/submission type of sexual relationship through the eyes of a young woman, who is romantically approached by a handsome (and exceedingly rich) man. He is into this kind of kinky sex. At the end we agree with the woman that those who practice this kind of sex have undoubtedly had an abusive or troubled childhood. A good read in so far that the occasional harlequin is fun for a change. But this book is nothing special and I am surprised everyone is still talking about it. Despite that, I'm curious to see what happens next, and I hope to read the second and third of this series soon. (It took me five years to get around to it; that's a comment in itself, isn't it?)
