A love story set against the Armenian genocide. Touching contrast of the good life before the war, and the awful trials as the Ottoman Empire crumbles and the majority turns on the minorities. No one is immune--a Turkish playboy reluctantly turned med student finds himself increasingly embroiled. A local Armenian tribe's final mountain stand and miraculous French intercession (with the naval Admiral deliberately disobeying orders to ignore the desperate refugees) is based on true events. There is a coda that is quietly inspiring as far as never giving up hope. Not suitable for children due to torture/murder scenes.
