Holy cow. This film turned out to be something different than I was expecting, and it had me glued to the screen. It's a moody psychological thriller (NOT an action thriller), that moves slowly but steadily, to a conclusion which is anything but inevitable. Atom Egoyan's best film to date, I think. The story centers on two issues, dementia and the holocaust, in a way that, I'm certain, neither has been dealt with before. It is a completely original story which, for thinkers, offers a powerful perspective on the nature of memory. May also be Christopher Plummer's best performance. And, Martin Landau is perfect in one of his last performances. If psycho-thrillers are your thing, this is one to watch.
