Lights Out is a supernatural horror movie that revolves around a supernatural being that kills her victims in the dark. Written by Eric Heisserer, directed by David Sandberg, and produced by James Wan, Lights Out made over $145 million. Throughout this movie, a family finds themselves trying to get away from a murderous spirit, while also uncovering a few family secrets. I think the concept of this movie is very interesting, and I also think this was genuinely terrifying. I did dislike some of the effects, however, the overall budget of this film had been less than $5 million, so I would not have expected much more. The jump-scares had me screaming, and this movie kept me on edge the entire time. I think this is the perfect movie to binge on a scary movie night with friends. With that being said, I don’t think I would go out of my way to watch this again, but it definitely was a cool idea. I would rate this movie 3.5/5. @TheCuriousBookworm of The Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board This thriller/horror film is about a little boy named Martin who must always keep the lights out when home with his mother for his safety as well hers. When the lights are turned on, a supernatural being freaks out and attacks the mother leaving the children vulnerable. To me, the movie seemed like one big metaphor for depression and mental illness and how it can consume you if you let it. The movie was similar to others that went with a similar theme, but what I did appreciate about this movie was the performance of the mother and the creepy feelings around the supernatural being. I would rate this movie 4/5 stars. @The_Reviewer of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board For viewers 14 and up. Lurking in the shadows is a supernatural demon who only comes when the lights are out. When a young girl fights to protect herself and her younger brother from this bloodthirsty monster, she has to unravel her family’s past. “Lights out” is a thrilling movie. If you're not scared of the dark now, after watching this you won't be able to sleep without thinking there's a shadow lurking near. I personally love watching horror movies because of the suspense and the thrill, but I got so freaked out when I watched this movie, and it still gives me the creeps sometimes. If you’re scared of the dark then I suggest you do not watch this movie for you won't be comfortable going to sleep again. 5/5 stars - @AquafinaAstro of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library
