This is a 1981 American SF action film co-written, co-scored, and directed by John Carpenter. Set in a then near-future 1997, the whole Manhattan in New York City has been converted into a maximum security prison. Ex-soldier Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell) is given 22 hours to find the US President, who has been captured by prisoners after the crash of Air Force One. Featuring an atmospherically grimy metropolis, this film is a strange, entertaining jumble of thrilling action and oddball weirdness of B-movie. Although the poster shows the head of the Statue of Liberty crashing into a New York street, no such incident appears in the film. They say, this movie has become a cult film. But I don't see why it is so. If the head of the Statue of Liberty had crashed into a New York street, I would've deen shockingly impressed by the so-called "cult film."
