Writer Mark Gatiss, and illustrator Jay, have created a great manga adaptation of the BBC series Sherlock. The story fits neatly into this one volume while flowing at a steady pace, and like the show, the characters' personalities come out shining. Jay's designs look like the actors, but have a bit more of the expressive manga flair tacked on. At points, the artist takes this a little too far though, creating forms that feel more unnatural than the rest. The mystery itself is just as thrilling in this format, and requires no knowledge of the show (or any of the larger canon for that matter) whatsoever. Sherlock: A Study in Pink will work well as a gateway title for any who have never read manga before, but fans of this format will also find a lot to like.
