Name of the Wind

the Kingkiller Chronicle. Day 01
Dec 05, 2016Lord_Vad3r rated this title 4.5 out of 5 stars
Every time I saw the name Kvothe written, I'd have to remind myself that it was pronounced as "quoth" and not ka-vote-tay. That is about the only bad thing I can say about the first book in the Kingkiller Chronicles. Kvothe's family is killed by a group of demons because his father was writing songs about them. It may seem a tad harsh but it's not like the demons could file a law suit like Joe DiMaggio did against Simon and Garfunkel. Kvothe finds himself alone in the woods at 11 and then on the mean streets of the biggest city in the kingdom by 12. He vows to get revenge on the demons but first he must learn about them. The rest is really kind of a medieval high school adventure complete with bullies, corporal punishment (and yes spanking other people's kids should be allowed), loan sharks, love interests, and total stalkers. We know that Kvothe goes on to become a person of legendary stature because he is looking back and relaying his story to a chronicler. We also know that there are a number of things going wrong in the present. . . I look forward to reading the second book though I may wait until the series is finished. This is a lesson I learned from another fantasy author who has kept us all waiting like six years for his next book.
