Implausible plot centered on one of the most horrible characters ever written.

Mike Trigg has done it again. Page-turning plot, captivating characters on a crime spree through California's historic Sierra Nevada.

The whole time reading this (for a book group) I thought of all the outstanding books I have had the privilege to read. This is not one of them. No idea how this writer has such a following.

If you were alive at the time, you remember the shock and confusion when Sara Jane Moore, the most innocuous-looking suburban matron, took a shot at President Gerald Ford. In San Francisco! It is only these many years later that I know how this came about. When "Squeaky" Fromme had done the same a couple of weeks earlier, it's what you might expect from a former Manson family member. Geri Spieler's account, re-issued under the title "Housewife Assassin: The Woman Who Tried to Kill President Ford" and optioned for a movie treatment, fleshes out Moore's background, her several marriages, her abandonment of her first three children and her time as an FBI informant who didn't care who knew she was informing on San Francisco radicals so you come to understand her unique path.
Geri Speiler so aptly captures the zeitgeist of the late 1960s and early 1970s that the early chapters of Housewife Assassin ought to be required reading in high school and college history and sociology courses. Those pages took me back to thinking and double-thinking of the era so completely, it was eerie. I halfway expected to look up from the book and find myself in my teenage body in my parents' living room. Highly, highly recommended reading by this librarian. If you were alive at the time, you remember the shock and confusion when Sara Jane Moore, the most innocuous-looking suburban matron, took a shot at President Gerald Ford.
